December means Advent!

The word “Advent” comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival.” Traditionally, it is a time of reflection, prayer, and hope, symbolized by the lighting of candles on an Advent wreath, each representing themes like hope, peace, joy, and love.

Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation in the Christian faith, observed in the weeks leading up to Christmas. It marks the beginning of the liturgical year (here’s my Methodist roots coming in!) and focuses on the coming of Jesus Christ—both His birth in Bethlehem and His promised return.

Through this season of Advent, may we not rush to celebrate the birth of Christ without slowly and intentionally engaging in Advent to prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus while also looking forward to His second coming.
